The Big Island of Hawaii lives up to its name. With an area of 4,028 miles it is almost twice the size of all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined. 1. Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is home to Kilauea Volcano. Kilauea Volcano has been erupting since January 3, 1983 and is currently one of the most active volcanoes in the world. There are many ways to spend a day at Volcanoes National Park. The park has 150 miles of hiking trails. You can stop at Jaggar Museum to learn more about volcanoes. Be sure to check out Puu Oo Vent and Halemaumau Crater. You can even walk through Thurston Lava Tube, a 500 year old lava cave that ends in a beautiful tropical rainforest.
