I love jokes. It is in my genes. My dad is the king of puns and corny jokes. His favorite holiday is April Fools Day (click here to read about one of his favorite pranks). Hawaii is known for its beautiful golf courses so whenever someone tells me they are going to golf in Hawaii I always tell them one of my dad’s favorite golf jokes “make sure you wear two pairs of pants in case you get a hole in one!” I know – it is a bad joke so you can imagine how thrilled I was to finally spend an evening with Sharkey’s Comedy Club comedians and real Hawaii Comedy – the best Waikiki Entertainment!
One of the first acts was Eddie Sax. He recently opened for Jay Leno at the Waikiki Shell. Eddie’s act was a juggling act. I was a little pessimistic when I heard he was going to juggle. Really how funny can juggling be? Wow I was wrong and I was laughing out loud through his entire act! The only part I didn’t like was the length – I wish his act had been longer. I loved how he incorporated several audience members in his routine.
The headliner of the Hawaii Comedy show was Bo Irvine. Bo Irvine was the winner of Last Comic Standing Season 6. He has shared the stage with George Carlin, Howie Mandel, George Lopez, Jeff Foxworthy and George Wallace, to name a few. His Hawaii Comedy was a hilarious look at Hawaiian culture. His act not only gives you a visitor’s perspective of the islands but gives his perspective of what it is like to travel to the mainland.

The concept for the Comedy Polynesia was a vision Bo Irvine shared with fellow island comedian Chief Sielu Avea. The two produced a show “that captures the visitor experience to the islands – our way – through the eyes of comedy as well as culture.” If you have experienced the comedic timing of Chief Sielu at Chief’s Luau at Sea Life Park you won’t want to miss Sharkey’s Comedy Club and Comedy Polynesia. On that note if you enjoy Sharkey’s Comedy Club, your next stop must be Chief’s Luau at Sea Life Park. This Hawaiian Luau not only offers the amazing food, atmosphere, dancing and music but the highlight is Chief Sielu’s great stage presence and hilarious act – this is not your typical Hawaiian Luau.
