Hawaii Vacation – What to Pack

Hawaii Vacation Packing Checklist

Hawaii Vacation Packing Checklist

Wondering what to pack for your Hawaii Vacation?  My Hawaii Vacation luggage includes:

  • Swimsuits
  • Sunglasses
  • Shorts
  • T-shirts
  • Camera/Charger
  • Phone/Charger
  • Windbreaker and/or light sweater
  • Sneakers
  • Flip Flops (Slippahs)
  • Dark clothing if going on a Hawaii helicopter tour
Swimsuits are the most have garment for Hawaii Snorkeling and relaxing days on the beach!  Sunglasses come in handy for Hawaii Fishing, Hawaii Hiking and seeing the sights on Hawaii Land Tours. I needed a windbreaker on my Kauai Kayaking Tour and it would come in handy on other Hawaii Tours and chilly mornings. A light sweater may be needed for Hawaii Dinner Cruises. Although we saw people Hiking Diamond Head in an assortment of shoes (we even saw one lady hiking in high heels!) I highly recommend sneakers for the Diamond Head Hike.  You will also need sneakers for Hawaii Activities such as Hawaii Horseback Riding, Hawaii ATV Tours, and Hawaii Zipline Tours.  If you want to take the best photos on Hawaii Helicopter Tours be sure to wear dark clothing to reduce the glare.

Sounds simple enough right? Our Hawaii Discount Facebook Fans agree! I asked our facebook fans what they thought was essential to pack for a Hawaii Vacation. Most of them agreed to pack lightly.  Many items can be purchased at the ABC store when you arrive in Hawaii.

My Hawaii Vacation packing tip is to pack a swimsuit, change of clothes and any necessities you may need the first night in your carry on bag. This way if your luggage happens to get delayed by the airline you can just flash them the hang loose sign and head to your hotel without putting a damper on your Hawaii Vacation.

My computer didn’t make the essential list but as a travel blogger I enjoy taking my laptop on trips and making notes each day of my adventures. Even if you leave your computer at home my travel tip is if you take most of your photos on your phone be sure to email them to yourself each night so if your phone gets lost you will still have your treasured photos.

A popular Hawaii Vacation travel tip on our facebook page was to pack lightly and to buy an extra suitcase in Hawaii and fill it up with goodies purchased in the Aloha State.

Some of the other suggestions of things to pack from the Hawaii Discount Facebook Page include:

“Sunscreen” Several people suggested Sunscreen.  A bad sunburn can ruin your Hawaii Vacation but if you can’t fit it into your luggage no worries – you can pick up several bottles at the ABC store or a grocery store.

“Extra memory card for camera” – A. Ibanez  An extra memory card is a great suggestion! A friend of mine ended up having to buy one at the hotel gift shop but you would save money if you brought one from home. You will be surprised at the large number of photo opportunities. I took hundreds of photos on the 5 Hour Lost Tour!

Seriously people. A carry on is all you need. People bring way too much stuff they will never need. We do have dept stores here if something is really needed. Or buy local.

  2. Elizabeth says:

Bryan – I agree – you don’t need much to enjoy paradise! Thank you for reading the blog – I am a big fan of your photos!

  3. Paula says:

Mosquito repellent for luaus & hikes.

    • Elizabeth says:

Good suggestion! Hiking, Kayaking, ATV Tours, Horseback Riding, and Zip Lines are all activities where bug repellent may be needed!

  4. Teresa Lightle says:

Consider a pair of capris or longer shorts for zip lining. Elizabeth thanks for the great blog. We met on the kayaking trip 3 years ago in January, been going back every year since.

    • Elizabeth says:

Hi Teresa! Great to hear from you! Yes I remember meeting you on your birthday trip! Have you been returning to Kauai each time or going to different islands? Yes – longer shorts are needed for zip lining – great tip!

  5. Denise says:

@ Bryan having been their just recently, I agree. I packed way too much and then my husband bought me a lot of things; I could have just gone in what I had on (altho we left from SFO & it was very cold here), so maybe 1 pr of shorts, sandals, tank top, and sleep wear and I would have been set! We bought everything else I could have wanted or need there and had to ship stuff home or pay extra to the airlines lol 🙂

    • Elizabeth says:

Yes it is easy to pack too much! It is more fun to pack light and leave room in your suitcase for all of the goodies you want to bring back! Thank you for reading the blog!

This really helped! I’m going to Hawaii in July for my honeymoon! Thank you for the blog! 🙂
