Kauai Tubing

Just minutes after we landed back on Kauai after our Big Island Hawaii Volcano Tour we arrived at Kauai Backcountry Adventures for their popular Kauai Tubing Adventure.

We checked in at Kauai Backcountry Adventures and got helmets, headlamps, shoes and gloves for Kauai Tubing. The shop was bustling as they were also checking in participants for Kauai Backcountry Adventures Kauai Zipline Tours.

It was short ride to the launch point at the top of the mountain. The scenery en route was breathtaking! We even stopped to take a few photos and to admire the views of Kauai.

Kauai Backcountry Adventures Kauai Tubing takes place at the former Lihue Plantation. The ditch and tunnel system irrigated sugar crops until 2000 when sugar was taken out of production.

After a short safety briefing it was time to grab our tubes and start our journey through the Lihue Plantation irrigation system. I was first in the water!

There are 5 tunnels on the Kauai Tubing Adventure.  These tunnels were hand-dug around 1870. The tunnels were so much fun! We were given headlamps to light the way.

This water system runs through some of the most beautiful and remote land on Kauai.

The waters originate near the top of Mount Waialeale, one of the wettest spots in the world. The waterway and ditch system wind through open canals, rushing flumes and mysterious tunnels hand-dug by plantation workers over a century ago!

The gently flowing irrigation water made for a perfect afternoon of enjoying Kauai in a unique, memorable way!

After Kauai Tubing we were treated to a picnic lunch and a cool dip at a swimming hole.

Kauai Backcountry Tubing is one of the most popular Hawaii Activities and is known to book out weeks in advance!  It is the only Tubing in Hawaii.

I highly recommend this Kauai Activity to everyone! We had a variety of ages on our tour and everyone truly enjoyed themselves. We even had some Kauai locals in our group taking this tour to celebrate a birthday!
