Tahiti Nui – Kauai Restaurants
Tahiti Nui, located in the heart of Hanalei, is a great place to go for some great food and/or a drink! It is one of the most popular Kauai Restaurants. Louise Marston opened the restaurant in May 1963 and it is still run by her family today.
As soon as we sat down I ordered the headline drink of the Tahiti Nui restaturant, a Mai Tai. Maitai is the Tahitian word for “good.” The Mai Tai at the Tahiti Nui lived up to it’s name! It was a delicious mix of rum and fresh fruit juice garnished with a pineapple, lime and a cherry. No one knows exactly what is in the Tahiti Nui Mai Tai. The recipe was imported from Tahiti and it is a closely guarded family secret.
The Tahiti Nui was featured in the George Clooney film The Descendants. This is the location where George Clooney’s character, Matt King, meets up with his cousin played by Beau Bridges. Beau Bridges is a regular at the Tahiti Nui. “All the guys you see in the scene in the background are just local folks who were hanging at the bar,” shares Bridges. “The Hawaiian band in the scene play there every Thursday night. Tahiti Nui is a legendary hang.”
I ordered the Kalua Pork Sandwich and it was delicious! When I go back for dinner I want to try the Ginger, Garlic, Cilantro Baby Back Ribs.
It was a great place to sit back enjoy some Mai Tais and talk about all of the Kauai Activities we had enjoyed and which Kauai Tours we wanted to add to our to do list.
I highly recommend a stop at Tahiti Nui! It is a great place to refuel after a morning snorkeling at Tunnels Beach or after a day enjoying beautiful Hanalei Bay. You can’t go wrong whether you stop in for lunch or go for the daily live music and dinner – just be sure to order a Mai Tai!
