10 Things To Do in Waikiki
World famous Waikiki Beach is one of the most popular vacation destinations on the planet! It is one of my favorite places in Hawaii. Check out my list of 10 Things To Do in Waikiki!
1. Go Surfing
Waikiki is the home to modern day surfing. It is great for both beginner surfers as well as those who have been surfing for their entire lives. If you are a beginner be sure to take a Waikiki Surf Lesson!
2. Waikiki Parasailing
If you want to experience some of the best views of Waikiki be sure to go Parasailing! View the Honolulu skyline including Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach from 1,000 feet!
3. Relax on a Dinner Cruise
Waikiki Dinner Cruises are a great way to get beautiful views of Waikiki, experience a stunning sunset and enjoy a delicious dinner.
4. Take a Waikiki Catamaran Cruise
Walking along Waikiki Beach you will notice several catamarans. Waikiki Catamaran Cruises are a fun way to glide across ocean. Relax with a Mai Tai and take in the scenic views. Enjoy a daytime cruise or take in the sunset on a luxurious sail.
5. Eat at Dukes
One of the most popular Waikiki Restaurants is Dukes Waikiki. Enjoy great views, yummy cocktails and delicious food! Be sure to save room for their famous Hula Pie!
6. Visit the Duke Kahanamoku Statue
Duke Kahanamoku grew up surfing in Waikiki. He was an Olympic gold medalist in swimming and actually taught visitors how to surf. He is known as “The father of modern surfing.” The Duke Statue was dedicated in 1990 and is one of the most famous landmarks in Waikiki. Click here to view the Duke Kahanamoku Statue live webcam!
7. Shop ‘Til You Drop
It is no secret that my favorite store in Hawaii is the ABC Store. In Waikiki you will find 34 ABC Stores in the one and a half-square mile radius that makes up Waikiki. This leads many to believe that ABC Stands for “All Blocks Covered.” Waikiki has many other great shops as well. I love to hit all of the surf shops such as Hurley, Quiksilver, Billabong and Rip Curl. Waikiki also offers high end shops including Tiffany & Co., Coach, Yves Saint Laurent, CHANEL, Gucci, TOD’S, Bottega Veneta, and BOSS.
8. Drink a Mai Tai
The modern Mai Tai was adapted in 1954 by the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The Mai Tai made famous by the Royal Hawaiian includes Dark Rum, Light Rum, Orange Curacao, Orange Juice and Lime Juice. A Mai Tai always tastes better when served with a paper umbrella and a beautiful view!
9. Explore Historic Hotels
The Moana Surfrider, built in 1901, was the first hotel in Waikiki. It was called “The First Lady of Waikiki.”
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel opened in 1927. It was built on prime Waikiki beachfront that was once the playground for King Kamehameha and was also the location of Queen Kaahumanu’s Summer Palace. The Royal Hawaiian has hosted elite visitors such as the Rockefellers, the Beatles, heads of state and Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood, and Dean Martin.
10. Get Some Sun and Cool Off in the Ocean
Relaxing in the sun and swimming in the Pacific ocean are the ultimate Hawaii Activities! Be sure to spend some time relaxing on the sand and in the water! There is no place quite like Waikiki Beach!
BONUS: Hike Diamond Head
The beautiful backdrop of Waikiki is Diamond Head. The 0.75 mile Diamond Head hike takes around two hours round-trip. The hike takes you over several trails, up 74 stairs, through a tunnel and then up 99 steep stairs. The stairs are tough but the view is worth it!
